Can you tell us a little bit about The Battle for Darracia?
A widening social gap between inhabitants on the planet Darracia is fracturing the once peaceful world. Nineteen-year-old Prince V’sair soon finds he must harness the power of the elusive Fireblade – the secret to a warrior’s heart. His quest is made all the more difficult because of his Uncle Staf Nuen’s selfish desire for domination. The young prince must use the energy of the Elements to find his true destiny before Staf Nuen can conquer Darracia.
What real life elements did you draw upon when writing Darracia?
Current events are my go-to inspiration. It seems that you can’t turn on the television or open a magazine without reading several stories of strife and discord among the masses. I keep my eyes open for relevant and timely news to incorporate into my writing. I look for things that really resonate with readers.
Do you have any favorite television shows that inspire your fantasy writing?
I honestly don’t watch television. Movies are more my thing. My absolute all-time favorite Science Fiction/Fantasy movies are:
Lord of the Rings
Legend of Zelda
Not necessarily in that order ☺
How can you compare the social gap aspect in Darracia with what might be going on the world today?
There is undeniable social inequality within our society, whether we like it or not. That’s just the way things are. Unfair, I know, but there all the same. I mean, just look at what happened in Puerto Rico during the recent hurricanes. Puerto Rico is part of the U.S., but those people were just left hanging.
Which genres do enjoy writing more – Science Fiction/Fantasy or Paranormal/Fantasy?
Hands-down I have to say Sci-Fi Fantasy. Don’t get me wrong. I love the paranormal. But world building a fantasyland to my own specifications is incredibly rewarding to me. Creating a universe and filling it with people who are free to tell their stories – that, to me, is when my writing really takes off.
