#BookBloggers I would love your input re #Facebook!

So…I hate (a word I dislike but need to use it) Facebook. I have had a personal account in the past but it is where people live out their lives and I detest that. I will say sorry to those that do this but my issue with it is that e.g. a birth announcement, even to family, is a case of ‘you should have paid attention to Facebook’. What is wrong with the traditional ringing up and getting to have the excitement with that person (this is pure example)??

I believe Facebook has caused more of a disconnection rather than connecting people HOWEVER I know from my husband’s experience that it is fantastic for business so I have contemplated a page for the blog. What I want to know is, is it worth it? Do you reach a bigger audience than on Twitter? I know that it is great for connections with shops and that is actually what has triggered this, I had to use my husband’s account to make an order for bookmarks but yet if it was placed

What I want to know is, is it worth it? Do you reach a bigger audience than on Twitter? I know that it is great for connections with shops and that is actually what has triggered this, I had to use my husband’s account to make an order for bookmarks but yet if it was placed using a blog page then the possibility of the shop sharing the blog is there.Β An additional wondering is about comments, do you receive many and can you keep up with the conversation because I struggle with the Twitter feed!

Thanks for taking the time to read because input really would be fantastic. I would love to know your experiences with Facebook.

Lisa xx

P.S. I know some folk struggle with my comments as it isn’t visible. Β There is a speech bubble, down the page a bit, and it has a + symbol in it – the comments section is in there.

  1. I’ve got a facebook page that runs alongside my blog. I have over 3k followers but have to admit I get a lot more interaction on twitter or the blog itself. It’s just an extra means of raising book awareness & possibly reaches those people who don’t get on with the speed of twitter xx

    • I just don’t know if I could put the time into keeping it fresh. I think this will take a lot of consideration before coming to a firm decision.

  2. I set a Facebook page for my blog at the beginning of May this year as I was enjoying the interaction with other bloggers on Twitter. I think Twitter is better for reaching more people but Facebook is great for sharing memes, blog posts and articles with followers, friends and family. I’ve got less than 50 followers and don’t want to pay to promote anything, but it’s fun and another way to share my love of books. Hope this helps.

    • Glad I’m not the only one! It would be great to have a list of ‘liked’ pages for ‘readers’ as opposed to blogger to like.. that sounds awful but I’m sure you get what I mean!!

  3. I have a page for the blog on FB… but I’ve set it up so it automatically publishes blog posts there directly… same like with twitter…
eh… to be honest, I have them just to have them but Twitter is probably better in terms of making connections… on my blog FB page people who already follow me directly on twitter also like my FB page and there’s only so many places and times you want to see that one new post… and I’m a devil for sharing other interesting bookish stuff not to mention creating content for the FB page because I suck at it and I don’t have the time… πŸ™‚

    • I honestly don’t think I would have the time for it. I struggle checking blogs every day and sharing them. I have to activly have times set aside to do it but it rarely works out. I’m starting to feel Twitter is best to stick with. I think on fb I would do the auto post like I do now on Twitter and Google+

  4. I agree with you about Facebook, I hate it. I have a page for my blog but I out little effort into it and have less than 200 followers. I don’t think it is a necessity for a blogger at all.

    • Thank you! I had to give mine up as it was affecting my mental health due to the points I made amongst other things so I just feel real trepidation about starting another, albeit not a personal acct but still an acct on there. I think I am possibly looking to have not making one justified by others πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚

      • Ive had a lot of problems with FB and my mental health aswell so can completely relate. The acct I have now is a brand new one I set up just for my blog. I have friended some family and friends but for the most part I only talk about books on there and everyone who has caused me grief in the past is blocked. I’m not a big FB user though and a lot of what happens there really winds me up!

      • Totally with you, it causes too much friction and/or jealousy. I don’t even like watching the news as I don’t want negativity in my life.

  5. Great post!
I agree with the comments here. I have a FB page for my blog, but I’m finding Twitter seems to be the better way to go. The interaction is so much better for me via Twitter. I thought it was just me, so I’m pretty happy to hear most people seem to feel this way.

    • I think it was a good idea to take this question to the masses. It has been constructive for all of us, I believe.
Thanks for your input Tina x

  6. I don’t use Facebook at all! I joined because my book group started using it to arrange meet ups, but deleted the account within 24 hours. Absolutely hated it. I guess you don’t miss what you’ve never had, but I’ve never found not having it a hindrance…

  7. hmm I’ve been considering this too. I’m the exact same as you- I’m really not keen on fb (I never was- my friends set it up for me when I was in high school and I’ve been a reluctant user ever since). I just don’t like the whole setup and how invasive it always seems (to the point where I’ve only used it for messaging in the last 6 months and feel much happier because of that). Like you said- what was wrong with good ol’ interactions in the real world for big life announcements? Let me know how you get on though, cos I’d be interested to hear how it works for a blog.
